Job summary

A leading investment management organization is seeking a Carbon Project Manager to ensure high standards are met across its global forest carbon projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in environmental science, superior communication skills, and a passion for sustainability practices. TIG is one of the world’s largest timberland investment management organizations globally, with assets and commitments under management of US$ 7.3B across nearly 3M acres in the U.S. and Latin America. TIG’s team consists of over 160 professional staff located in 21 offices across the U.S., Brazil, Chile and Uruguay. TIG’s work is supported by regional collaborations with The Nature Conservancy, who serves as Conservation Adviser to TIG’s core timberland strategy in the U.S., and Conservation International, who serves as Impact Adviser to TIG’s reforestation strategy in Latin America.

Position Overview

TIG seeks a Carbon Project Manager to join our team in Chicago, Illinois (consideration will also be given to New York, Seattle or Sao Paulo, Brazil).

Reporting to the Senior Portfolio Manager, the Carbon Project Manager will play a key role in ensuring that TIG’s forest carbon projects meet high standards and integrity across its global footprint while innovating new ways to deliver on the massive potential of forests to mitigate climate change, halt and reverse biodiversity loss, and supporting equitable rural development.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure consistent application of carbon project standards and methodologies acorss TIG’s global operations.
  • Support in drafting Project Descriptions, Monitoring Reports and similar documents associated with project listing, validation and verification.
  • Manage TIG’s carbon registry accounts, including submitting documents, managing carbon credit transfers and retirements, and maintaining public information on TIG’s carbon projects.
  • Support Portfolio Management teams with carbon inventory management and carbon sales.
  • Management and oversight of validation and verification bodies including contracting, preparation of validation and verification documentation, and management of validation and verification processes.
  • Coordination with technical consultants and research organizations that support TIG’s carbon project development, monitoring and reporting.
  • Conduct research on trends, regulatory changes, and best practices in forest carbon projects including monitoring registry standards, methodologies and coordinating TIG public comments and engagement in carbon market and standard setting organizations.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, effectively communicating carbon project initiatives and performance. Assist in preparing presentations, reports, and other materials.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in environmental science, environmental management, forestry, sustainability, or a related field.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills and an ability to interact effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including investment committee members, clients, partners, and others.
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team, to effectively prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously, and deliver against specific workplans and timelines.
  • A creative, entrepreneurial spirit and an ability to thrive in a meritocratic workplace.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Passion for sustainability and responsible investment practices.
Preferred Knowledge and Experience
  • 1-3 years of experience in carbon markets (e.g. carbon project development, validation and verification, or at a carbon registry), investment analysis and/or management, including relevant experience managing natural resources or other real assets.
  • Knowledge of forest management, natural resource investment, or related sectors.
  • Portuguese or Spanish language ability preferred
Location

Preference given for hiring to TIG’s Chicago office. Seattle, New York and Sao Paulo, Brazil, will also be considered. Periodic travel within the US and internationally required.
