Job description
Overview

We require proactive and hardworking staff to work as part of the Car Parking Department to provide a fair, efficient and effective car parking and traffic management service to the Trust. This is a challenging and demanding post; the successful candidate must be confident, approachable and able to work under pressure whilst remaining polite and courteous at all times. You need to be customer focused and able to communicate with staff, patients and visitors at all levels. Hours of work will be 37.5 per week (Mon to Fri).

This role requires the candidate to act as a first point of contact for queries and complaints in relation to the car parking service and permit management, for Trust staff, patients and visitors.

Responsibilities
  • Monitor the car parking service equipment, its performance and report faults or damages to the Car Parking Management Team.
  • Issue enforcement notices and warnings where appropriate and in line with service policies and standards.
  • Direct drivers to appropriate parking areas and provide information to visitors, students, staff and patients.
  • Monitor and/or patrol the site to ensure traffic remains flowing.
  • Work across either of the two NUH sites (City & QMC) and be ready to work at any time as instructed.
  • Provide a visible service of enforcement across the Trust Estate and assist with enquires by taking intercom calls and assisting customers with issues and queries.
  • Take cash and card payments and balance cash as required.
  • Carry out first line fault finding on car park equipment to reduce downtime; perform pre-use checks on service vehicles and report faults.
  • Attend designated parking areas during established lot hours and ensure compliance with parking regulations; check signs, posts and payment equipment and enforce appropriate actions for non-compliance.
  • Identify non-compliant vehicles, restrict unauthorised vehicles, and ensure cars are parked in designated spaces without blocking traffic flow.
  • Respond quickly to notifications of parking infringements as directed by management.
  • Engage with the public and staff in a calm, professional and approachable manner; be helpful and courteous to all.
  • Provide directions, parking alternatives and campus information to visitors, students, staff and patients.
  • Check permits for authorisation and assist in identification of stolen permits; report suspicious activity to Trust Security.
  • Wear appropriate safety clothing and uphold health & safety regulations at all times; report hazards and dangers on site.
  • Carry out car park related duties as assigned by the Car Parking Management Team and assist the Car Parking Co-ordinator to achieve business and operational goals.
  • Work in all weather conditions and perform additional related tasks as directed by Management.

  • Physical fitness to spend long periods on foot/walking around the hospital campus.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff, patients and visitors at all levels; customer-focused and able to work under pressure while remaining courteous.
