Responsibilities
- Cash handling, using a till and card machine.
- Prepping salads and sandwiches.
- Washing up and maintaining kitchen cleanliness.
- Serving breakfast and drinks to customers.
- Accepting deliveries and putting food away.
- Cleaning the kitchen after cooking meals, ensuring prep areas are cleaned and sanitised at the end of each shift.
- Comply with food hygiene standards, completing relevant checks and maintaining records.
- Adhere to food safety regulations and maintain a high standard of hygiene.
- Undertake deep cleans of the kitchen and all preparation and storage areas.
- Observe cleanliness and safety standards in the work area, including proper handling and cleaning of equipment, utensils, dishes and workstations.
- Properly store food items at appropriate temperatures and rotate stock.
- Prepare and cook full English breakfast for customers, covering the morning cook shift.
- Work independently on occasions and supportively as part of a team to achieve canteen objectives.
- Maintain a high understanding of dietary requirements and relevant legislation.
- Provide coverage for day shift (25 hours – Monday to Friday, 7am‑12pm) and be flexible to cover other shifts if needed.
Qualifications
- Previous cooking experience (ideal for morning cook role).
- Experience in catering within a customer-focused environment.
- Strong work ethic, high personal work standards and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Understanding of relevant food safety legislation and dietary requirements.
- Level 2 food hygiene qualification (ideal but not essential – full training provided).
- Flexibility to cover annual leave for afternoon/night shifts.
- Immediate start required.
