Overview

Manufacturing Buyer - Pathway to Purchasing Manager

Location: Dudley

Salary: £38-42k per annum

We're looking for a Procurement Specialist to join our dynamic manufacturing team and take ownership of sourcing, supplier management, and materials control across multiple production areas. You'll play a key role in keeping operations running smoothly while developing the strategic and leadership skills to move into management.

Responsibilities
  • Procurement & Supplier Management: Source and purchase materials and services that meet cost, quality, and delivery targets. Build strong, reliable supplier partnerships and identify new opportunities for improvement.
  • Commercial Insight: Evaluate supplier bids, support contract negotiations, and benchmark pricing to deliver real savings and added value.
  • Stock & Materials Control: Manage stock levels efficiently, tracking orders and deliveries to ensure nothing stands still.
  • Process & Compliance: Align purchasing with ISO and company standards, support ERP systems, and contribute to continuous improvement projects.
  • Global Logistics: Coordinate international shipments and understand the ins and outs of Incoterms and import/export processes.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with production, engineering, and finance teams to align procurement activities with business goals.
Qualifications
  • 3+ years' experience in purchasing or procurement, ideally in a manufacturing or engineering environment.
  • Strong negotiation and supplier relationship management skills.
  • Confidence managing international procurement and long lead times.
  • ERP system experience and a data-driven approach.
  • Working knowledge of ISO 9001/14001 standards (advantageous).
  • CIPS qualification or currently studying towards certification.
  • Excellent communication, detail orientation, and a collaborative mindset.
