Main duties of the job

We have an exciting opportunity for a fixed term Specialist Biomedical Scientist to join our team in Special Coagulation at 60 Whitfield Street.The successful candidate must have experience and knowledge in Coagulation techniques and theory. Training experience and or running a specialist section is desirable.

Some of the duties will include, but not limited to:

Co-ordinate and participate in the processing of samples for specialist coagulation by working with other Biomedical Scientists and MedicalLaboratory Assistants staff to ensure a smooth workflow within the Core Specialist Coagulation Laboratory. Carry out and report specialist coagulation testing using a variety of manual, semi-automated and automated technology laboratory techniques (including clotting, chromogenic, ELISAs and platelet aggregometry methodology) used to diagnose patients with bleeding and thrombotic disorders. This will require autonomy and will be carried out according to laboratory protocols.

The core hours are Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, but there will be opportunities to work overtime and weekends.

Due to the nature of work that Sonic Healthcare UK undertakes, our clients require that Employees filling certain roles, need, as part of their on-boarding to complete a DBS Check. This role falls in to the category of requiring a DBS check (standard)

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • IBMS accredited Biological Sciences degree or equivalent qualification in pathology disciplines
  • Current registration with The Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
  • Specialist Diploma in a relevant discipline or equivalent
Experience
  • Minimum 2 years post HCPC experience
  • Previous experience of working in Coagulation/Haematology Laboratory
  • Previous experience of working in a Special Coagulation Laboratory.
  • Good theoretically knowledge in Haemostasis
  • Demonstrate experience of working to a laboratory Quality Management system
  • Proficiency in relevant techniques
  • Experience of using a Laboratory Information System
