Job description

The Welsh Blood Service (WBS) has a vacancy for HCPC registered Biomedical Scientists (Band 5 practitioner level) .

This is a temporary position to cover maternity leave offering the successful candidate an exciting opportunity to work in the Quality Assurance Laboratory at the Welsh Blood Service.

1. This post is fixed term/secondment for 12 months to cover maternity leave. If you are interested in applying for the secondment position, you must obtain permission from your current line manager prior to applying for this post

Main duties of the job

The post holder will perform a variety of routine and specialist scientific and technical tasks within the Quality Assurance Laboratory that include Quality Control testing of blood components using Haematology, Flowcytometry, Coagulometry and Spectrophotometric methods.

The successful applicant will work at a level to ensure that all processes meet the requirements of the UK Guidelines for Blood Transfusion and the EU Directive as inspected by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA).

As a Biomedical Scientist there will be a requirement to participate in a 24/7 on-call rota and variable shift patterns including weekend working. Applicants must be within a 30-minute journey time of the Talbot Green base.
