Job summary

An independent girls' school is seeking a well-organised Biology Technician to support the delivery of science lessons. Responsibilities include preparing and maintaining equipment, assisting with experiments, and ensuring safety standards. Ideal candidates will have previous laboratory experience, strong organisational and communication skills. This term-time-only role requires a commitment of 36 hours per week, Monday to Friday from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM.

Qualifications

We are looking for a well‑organised and highly capable Biology Technician to join our team of experienced technicians, Parlament the Science department at Sheffield High School for Girls.

As a Biology Technician, you will support the safe delivery of experiments and practical activities in science lessons, helping to optimise teaching and learning. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing, setting out and clearing away equipment and materials for lessons and practical examinations
  • Trialling experiments prior to lessons
  • Assisting teachers and pupils during lessons and experiments, supporting the safe use of equipment
  • Maintaining the departmental inventory, including stock control and purchasing of equipment, materials, chemicals, textbooks and audio‑visual resources
  • Ensuring high standards of health and safety, keeping work areas tidy, and maintaining equipment in good working order

The successful candidate will have a strong knowledge of science and a genuine interest in the subject. Previous laboratory experience in an academic or industrial setting is essential. Strong organisational, communication, and manual handling skills are also required.

This is a term time only role, working 36 hours per week Monday to Friday from 8.30amto4.30pm.
