Job description

Behaviour Mentor require to provide 1-2-1 support for a Key Stage 3 student with SEMH needs and challenging behaviours. This vibrant alternative provision in south Birmingham is looking for a behaviour mentor to work closely with a student who has struggled to engage in lessons and has been permanently excluded from mainstream education.

As a behaviour mentor you will be responsible for managing behaviours, delivering interventions and mentoring the student. You will be working closely with the class teacher to ensure that the student is supported appropriately, understands the work provided, and is making the appropriate progress. This role requires strong communication and behaviour management skills. Previous experience supporting young people is essential to be considered for this behaviour mentor role. This role is an outstanding opportunity to make a real difference supporting young people who have faced academic and social barriers.

Job Role
  • Managing classroom behaviours and helping young people to regulate behaviours.
  • Acting as a positive role model and behaviour mentor for students, helping them to understand the impact that their actions have on other staff and students.
  • Communicating effectively with students, staff and parents to identify the causes behind the challenging behaviours.
  • Taking part in whole school activities, trips and reward days.
  • Utilising a range of de‑escalation techniques when required. Spotting triggers and helping students before they go into crisis.
