There is a mental health professional (CPN) involved and you will provide support and guidance. There are also physical diagnoses including sleep apnoea, back pain and asthma, so her condition and how she feels fluctuates each day. It is essential that you have experience of supporting people with mental health diagnoses and have experience of working with adults in their own home. There may be times when you need to contact various professionals for support in crisis situations and this will be discussed during interview.

You will support with medication for which training will be given, ensure safety at home and be aware of limitations on a bad day. She is able to do more on good days and this can fluctuate from day to day. You will support with going to the shops, meeting friends, taking part in various activities such as going to the gym and out for food.

Each day will be different depending on what she wants to do on that day, so you should be prepared to be flexible. We would also like the support workers to be able to suggest things to do out in the community, so you should be willing to be proactive in finding various activities to take part in.

We would prefer you to be a car driver with your own transport; however, this isn’t essential as public transport can be used. Expenses will be met by your employer.

Hours – 24 hours per week. Support required is broken down into calls – One hour morning calls Monday-Sunday Monday (12pm-1pm) and Wednesday (12pm-1pm); Friday (approx. 10:30am-3pm) Evening call 1.5 hours per day. Total – 24 hours per week.
