Job Overview

To participate in and develop out dispensing services Trustwide, to meet the needs of the users of the service and the required standards of professional and legislative practice.

To provide the professional support and management of the pharmacy out patient team.

To oversee the pharmacy management of all clinical trials Trustwide.

Main duties of the job
  • To participate in, manage and develop all Trust out-patient dispensing services in line with the pharmacy and Trust strategy.
  • To ensure timely and efficient delivery of out-patient services responding to changes in national, local or Trust strategic direction or operational challenges.
  • To direct and control the work of staff accountable and ensure that this work is carried out safely and efficiently and respond promptly and appropriately to any new guidance.
  • To work on both Trust sites and align pharmacy out patient service.
  • To liaise with clinics and prescribers to improve the service provided to, and the experience of, our patients by proactively discussing issues that are having a negative impact on our service. This may include, but is not limited to, discussion with prescribers about poor prescribing practice or giving patients unrealistic expectations on when their prescription will be ready.
  • To oversee the Trust home delivery and patient counselling service.
  • In conjunction with the Deputy Chief Pharmacist, Operational and Patient Services (DCP), develop, implement and evaluate methods for monitoring the quality of the pharmaceutical services provided, acting on results of financial, service and clinical audits as required.
  • To produce regular reports for Pharmacy Senior Team meetings and senior pharmacy management team on key performance indicators and supply data for benchmarking purposes.
  • To contribute to the development and implementation of strategies, policies and procedures for the Trusts Pharmacy patient services leading to improvements in service provision and development with particular emphasis on the service to out-patients ensuring all standard operating procedures for out-patient services are regularly reviewed and up to date.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Work within agreed Trust and departmental policies and procedures and to accepted standards of practice. Work in other areas and on other sites in the Trust to cover for service needs. Undertake such other duties as may be required from time to time, as are consistent with the responsibilities of the grade. Ensure confidentiality at all times, only releasing confidential information obtained during the course of employment to those acting in an official capacity.
