Responsibilities
  • Support the lead SACT Nurse in the provision of outstanding SACT services for our patients.
  • Be an expert in all aspects of SACT services, and will need to work in accordance to and meet the requirements of the relevant national measures and guidelines.
  • Assist in the development of services at our main site (Royal Berkshire Hospital) and spoke sites (Bracknell and West Berkshire Community Hospital).
  • Be responsible for the line management of all employees of the SACT units, with main responsibility for Chemotherapy 1, Bracknell. They will share the line management responsibilities of WBCH with the SACT Unit Manager of King Edward Ward, RBH.
  • Assist with the training and development of new and existing staff, particularly those undertaking SACT qualifications.
CLINICAL
  • Deliver SACT safely and effectively in accordance with guidelines.
  • Practice as an expert in cancer Nursing and SACT administration.
  • Use specialist knowledge and skills to assess patients, interpret complex problems and provide the appropriate level of intervention.
MANAGEMENT
  • Act as a role model and lead by example.
  • To organise workload allowing time for clinical, management and educational time.
  • To participate in local, regional and national network groups.
  • To manage the day-to-day running of the SACT units, being the main point of contact for clinical and non clinical issues.
  • Be responsible for the smooth running of the unit, mindful of issues related to health and safety and the management of risk.
  • Ensure safe staffing of the units and escalates appropriately when unable to manage using own resources.
  • Be aware of budgets and ensure best efforts are made to maintain resourcefulness.
  • To ensure that the recruitment, retention, motivation and development of staff is a key management priority.
EDUCATION
  • Provides education and training for all bands and disciplines of staff with support from the BCC Practice Education team, SACT Advanced Nurse Practitioners and Lead SACT Nurse.
  • Identify and advocate for the educational needs of the team and facilitate the provision of education to meet those needs.
  • To support the lead SACT Nurse in the management of the SACT register and contribute to the development of SACT Nurses and ongoing competency maintenance. You will hold a recognised SACT qualification and have recent experience working with SACT., Registered Adult Nurse

  • Masters in specialist area or able to demonstrate competence at equivalent level
  • Non-medical prescribing, Recent experience in SACT administration
  • Experience in facilitation, teaching, assessing, coaching
  • Post-qualification clinical experience in oncology/haematology at band 6 level or above
  • Experience in leadership and management
  • Experience of successful Change Management
  • Experience in working on an outpatient SACT unit, You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
