Job description
Breast Screening Clinical Nurse Specialist

Central & East London Breast Screening Service. Based at Saint Bartholomew’s Hospital.

7.5 Hours per week every Wednesday 8:30am-5pm.

This is an exciting time to be working at the Royal Free London Breast screening service with our expanding service delivery across North, Central and East London. Our breast screening population is currently 400,000, making us one of the biggest breast screening services in the UK.

We are looking for a Band 7 Breast Screening Clinical Nurse Specialist to support the CELBSS Breast Screening Service at our Barts site. CELBSS offers screening in seven locations across London including Camden, Islington, City & Hackney, Newham, Tower Hamlets, and Waltham Forest.

Responsibilities
  • Act as the key worker for breast screening patients who have been recalled for assessment, advocate while coordinating their care pathway from assessment through to discharge/diagnosis and referral for further treatment.
  • Provide holistic care and support through counselling, educating, advising, and supporting emotional needs.
  • Manage junior members of the breast care nursing team in the absence of the Lead Clinical Nurse Specialist.
  • Coordinate health promotion both internally and externally.
  • Take a leading role in service improvement and development.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Proven experience in a clinical background, with knowledge of treating breast cancer / breast disease and breast screening clients.
  • First level degree or currently working towards one.
  • Specialist qualification in advanced breast care practice.
  • Counselling skills training and experience.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Ability to prioritise, work independently as well as within a team.
  • Demonstrated alignment with Trust values, responsibilities and person specification.

Legal and Eligibility

All applicants should have valid NMC registration. The post holder must be a qualified Clinical Nurse Specialist holding the Diploma (DCR) or Degree (BSc) in Nursing.

Due to the sensitive nature of this post, only female applicants can be considered. This is in line with the defined exceptions in the Equality Act 2010, known as Genuine Occupational Requirements (GOQ).
