Job description

The post holder deputises for the Senior Nurse, ensuring the effective running of the department in his/her absence. Working closely with the Senior Nurse and the Associate Director of Nursing, the Junior Sister/charge nurse is responsible for the delivery of professional nursing care to meet patient needs according to the standard agreed in the Performance Management Framework and the Nursing Strategy.

In addition, the post holder is responsible for providing clinical and managerial leadership to nursing and support staff, facilitating practice development within the clinical area. The post holder will also be involved in developing services related to area of practice such as nurse led sedation services, IV access and out of hours’ service provision.

To provide and maintain the highest standard of individualised and holistic patient care within the Interventional radiology department and in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team.

To assist in the delivery of patient care, pre, peri-op and post procedure of diagnostics and/or interventional procedures.

Responsibilities
  • To ensure that the care delivered to patients is a result of individual assessment of their need using an appropriate assessment framework and actively seek consent in the delivery of such care.
  • Collaborating with the Senior Sister and ADN, develop care pathways, clinical practice guidelines and protocols in line with National Service Frameworks, Department of Health guidance and the National Institute of Clinical Excellence to facilitate delivery of care which is best practice.
  • To actively encourage application of Essence of Care (DOH 2001) benchmarks to daily practice and in the delivery of care to patients.
  • Demonstrate clinical expertise by regularly practicing alongside the nursing team delivering hands on care, using highly developed physical, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • To encourage creative, innovative practice that positively impacts on patient care.
