Job description
Overview

We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced nurse, who is passionate and interested in working in an Acute inpatient mental services for patients. You must be able to work flexibly and willing to adapt with the changing needs of our services. The post will require a high level of teamwork as well as a degree of autonomous working. The inpatient is a dynamic, caring and compassionate environment. The team is highly motivated, focused and hardworking with a strong commitment to delivering high quality patient care. The therapeutic environment offers a broad range of interventions working co-productively with patients and cares to deliver an excellent service.

The ward team is a multi-disciplinary mental health team that aims to provide a safe and effective clinical assessment and treatment service for patients requiring acute mental health treatment in hospital, informally or under a Section of the Mental Health Act. The inpatient unit is situated at the Mental Health Unit, Claybrook Road, Hammersmith.

Responsibilities
  • Work closely with the Ward Manager as a clinical team leader to provide safe, effective and high quality care for adult patients with mental health needs.
  • Deliver high quality nursing care to mental health service users receiving inpatient and/or community services within a service area, in accordance with the objectives and vision of the Trust.
  • Provide care, support and assessments of all clients who are referred to or enter the ward.
  • Give clinical supervision to qualified staff and support the ward manager with management responsibilities.
  • Complete assessments of patients, provide feedback to the MDT on progress, and make recommendations for further interventions.
  • Accept section paperwork from police/AMHP and ensure all information is accurately recorded.
  • Provide nursing care to clients including physical assessments, mental health assessments and interventions, risk assessments and appropriate management plans for identified risks.
  • Gather collateral information on clients from GP, community teams, liaise with other trusts, family and friends where possible.
  • Complete all necessary documentation on the patient’s progress and plans for care while on the ward, including risk assessments, care plans and any assessment documentation.
Qualifications and experience
  • Professional nursing registration and experience of working within mental health services and within a multidisciplinary team and multi-agency frameworks.
  • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team in a supportive, caring and innovative environment with a proactive approach to staff wellbeing.
