Job description
Overview

1. To adhere to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct for nurses, midwives and health visitors and be conversant with the scope of Professional Practice and other NMC papers.

2. To act as a role model and motivate team members towards an innovative and high standard of practice that is research/evidenced based.

3. Ensure contemporaneous records are maintained.

4. Promote a team approach to care within a multidisciplinary framework, involving liaison and effective communication of confidential and sensitive information with other statutory and voluntary agencies.

5. Ensure that community learning disability nursing service develops in line with core values and outcomes, whilst following government recommendations and public health initiatives.

6. To work autonomously and effectively as part of community learning disability nursing service whilst managing own caseload.

7. To ensure the legal frameworks relevant to work undertaken within Specialist Learning Disability Service are adhered to and followed.

Education and Qualification
Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse Learning Disabilities (RNLD) with current NMC registration
  • Teaching and assessing or ability to undertake in the post.
Desirable criteria
  • Post registration qualifications relevant to the post e.g. teaching and assessing, dual diagnosis, health promotion, epilepsy care, positive behaviour management
Experience and knowledge
Essential criteria
  • Awareness of working in a Community Learning Disabilities Team or Multidisciplinary team working
  • Knowledge and skills to undertake health assessments develop care plans and evaluate them using person-centered approaches
  • Knowledge and skills to deliver or facilitate health care according to assessed needs.
Desirable criteria
  • Post Registration Experience of working with people with learning disabilities
