University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (UCLH) are searching for a highly motivated and passionate Band 5 Senior Production Technician to join their skilled team.

Job Purpose:

To assist and deputise for the Lead Production Technician in the day to day delivery of the production services from UCL Hospital production sites in accordance with the principles of Good Manufacturing Practice and nationally agreed standards. To assist in the management of assistants, production training and assessment of new technicians and assistants.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Carry out appraisals and supervise teams in production areas.
  • To be a positive role model and provide a high-profile level of management and supervision whilst empowering others to deliver their objectives and goals.
  • To manage, support and direct the work of all staff during their allocated periods to cover work in the relevant production areas.
  • Assist the Lead Production Technician in the daily planning of workload and staff allocation in the production units to ensure a prompt and responsive service to the users under the direction of the Senior Production Pharmacists.
  • Liaise with other departments within the trust and externally to ensure the highest quality of service.
  • To undertake aseptic preparation of batch, re-pack batch production and dispense items as required according to the guide to Good Manufacturing Practice, Health and Safety at Assist the Lead Production Technician in the daily planning of workload and staff allocation in the production units to ensure a prompt and responsive service to the users under the direction of the Senior Production Pharmacists.
  • Liaise with other departments within the trust and externally to ensure the highest quality of service.
  • To undertake aseptic preparation of batch, re-pack batch production and dispense items as required according to the guide to Good Manufacturing Practice, Health and Safety at work, pharmaceutical guidelines relevant to aseptic dispensing and departmental and Trust procedures.
  • To work unsupervised as a senior technician in the chemotherapy, PN, Re-pack, ATAU (Advance Therapy Aseptic Unit) and CIVAS units following a period of accreditation.
  • Assist the Lead Production Technicians in the provision of the Parenteral Nutrition (PN), Chemotherapy, re-pack, ATAU & CIVAS service.
  • To be responsible for ensuring that all records and departmental logs are filled in correctly and at the specified frequency, and to report any ‘out of specification’ results to the Senior Production Pharmacists.
  • To be responsible for ensuring that the required environmental monitoring is carried out in the allocated unit and that microbial plates are labelled and sent for incubation in a timely manner.
  • To be responsible for ensuring that daily audits and physical monitoring are carried out according to procedures and results are documented. To ensure that all out of limit results are reported to Senior Production staff.
  • Prepare documentation and labels using the available computer systems.
  • To assemble trays of solutions and/ or raw materials, according to worksheets, and record batch numbers and expiry dates.
  • To be responsible for the correct use of pieces of equipment.
  • To supervise and organise the work of assistant/ SMTs/senior assistant technical officers/ technicians and ensure that they are aware of the daily plans and what is expected of them.
  • To ensure that all documentation is filled in correctly, processed and filed in the correct place.
  • To be responsible for the ordering, receipt, issue, storage and stock control of medicines and store items.
  • To help maintain high standards of cleanliness and tidiness in working areas and comply with relevant procedures.
  • Maintain knowledge of current regulatory guidelines and regulations pertaining to GMP/GDP and Pharmacy GCP.
  • To at all times Practice in accordance with the Code of Ethics of the General Pharmaceutical Council.

Requirements:

  • NVQ Pharmacy services Level 3 plus an accredited underpinning knowledge (BTEC in Pharmaceutical Science, Science manufacturing technician (SMT) qualification or equivalent.
  • Registered Technician with the GPhC or registered SMT with Science Council.
  • Leeds University Aseptic preparation of Medicines – short course.
  • Demonstrate pharmacy Practice experience, including relevant experience in pharmacy production aseptic dispensing.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of and lead a team.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of good stock control practice.
  • Experience of managing a small project.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritise and organise routine daily tasks using own initiative.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems.
