Job description

Pulse has recently partnered with one of the UK’s specialist provider of diagnostic and healthcare solutions. We are currently looking for an experienced Pharmacy Technician, who can provide overall support for the clinical leadership of the service. This post is based in Birmingham, which is easily accessible via public transport.

About the role

As a Pharmacy Technician, you will undertake various duties to support the pharmacy service while receiving comprehensive training. The role involves contributing to the overall service and providing cover as needed to ensure the smooth operation and benefit of the service.

Your main responsibilities as a Pharmacy Technician
  • Participate in the dispensing of all prescriptions and orders presented to hospital pharmacies serviced by the trust.
  • Participate in the dispensing of clinical trials and ensure that all documentation is completed accurately.
  • After completion of training participate in medicines management services, which will include.
  • Undergo training to prepare sterile and non-sterile pharmaceuticals, including cytotoxics, intravenous injections, CIVAS, and parenteral nutrition for adults and neonates using aseptic techniques. Maintain an up-to-date broth transfer test at all times.
  • Develop and maintain the ability to provide advice to patients and other Healthcare professionals about their medicines and further supplies, inSympathetic and courteous manner.
  • After completion of training, be able to interview and counsel patientsat drug history-taking sessions about their medicines and further supplies.
  • Contribute to the purchasing and control of stock using a computerised system.
  • Assist in the top-up, issue and distribution of pharmaceuticals to all wards, departments and other hospitals as required after training.
  • Contribute to the processing of cash / cheques and issuing of bills to patients and staff where necessary.
  • Maintain relevant records of work undertaken including computer records.
  • Maintain a clean and tidy environment at all times.
  • Contribute to the maintenance and security of pharmaceuticals.
  • Participate in stock taking procedures where necessary and report any stock discrepancies to the appropriate person.
  • Follow and implement departmental Standard Operating Procedures at all times.
  • Participate in audits where necessary.
  • Assist in training and education when required.
  • Maintain and develop personal knowledge and skills.
  • Achieve objectives agreed at Individual Performance Review with the line manager.
  • Participate in departmental rotas, rotas for early and late opening, bank holidays, and weekend cover as part of the working week.
What we are looking for in a Pharmacy Technician
  • Experience in a hospital pharmacy.
  • NVQ3, BTEC or equivalent in pharmaceutical science.
  • Must be registered with Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain by 2007.
  • Evidence of CPD.
