Job summary

A leading healthcare provider in Birmingham is seeking a Band 3 Therapy Assistant to support physiotherapy and occupational therapy services within the acute clinical setting. The ideal candidate will communicate effectively with patients, report on progress, and maintain records. Educational qualifications, as well as relevant experience in healthcare, are necessary for this role, along with teamwork and organizational skills. Flexible work hours, including weekends, are expected.

Band 3 Therapy Assistant

We are looking for enthusiastic Therapy Assistants with excellent communication skills to join our therapy team at Heartlands Hospital.

You will have the opportunity to support the delivery of the physiotherapy and occupational therapy services to patients within the acute clinical setting. This will involve working under the supervision of registered therapists and having responsibility for an agreed clinical caseload.

The Therapy Assistant will be required to work across various acute wards and may be required to complete both community and domiciliary visits to patients' homes. You will be required to report back to the registered therapists regarding patient progress and maintain appropriate records of all patient interventions.

We currently have opportunities across various acute wards at Heartlands Hospital.

Main duties of the job

To support the delivery of the physiotherapy and occupational therapy services to patients within the acute clinical setting at Heartlands Hospital.

This will involve accepting patients referred by the therapists for treatment, working unsupervised, reporting back regarding patient progress, informing the therapists of any problems and maintaining appropriate records. Patients will be treated according to set treatment protocols and you will be monitoring patient progression, implementing and making minor alterations to patient treatment programmes as required.

The post holder will need to be flexible, have excellent team working, organisational and time management skills, and have an awareness of the need to respect confidentiality at all times.

You will be required to complete various administration tasks alongside your clinical work. A basic knowledge of IT is desirable.

Previous experience working with elderly people or members of the general public is also desirable.

You will need to be prepared to participate in seven day working.

Qualifications
  • *Education to GCSE level or equivalent including English and maths
  • *Able to demonstrate competence in maths and written and spoken English
  • *Educated to A Level / NVQ 3/ BTEC or equivalent (e.g NVQ 2 or similar vocational qualification PLUS experience working in a care setting)
  • *Care certificate or be willing to work towards this
  • *Evidence of recent education / personal development related to Healthcare.
Experience
  • *Relevant therapy / health / social care experience
  • *Experience of dealing with people
  • *Experience of working in a team
  • *Can demonstrate a broad understanding of relevant areas of therapy, the effect of illness/critical conditions / disability on function and health and basic aims of rehabilitation
  • *Good understanding of the role of therapy support worker in the relevant area
  • *Understanding of confidentiality and data protection in healthcare
  • *Experience of communicating with and motivating patients who may have communication difficulties
  • *Experience of working in a role supporting therapists
  • *Experience of working with the relevant patient group
  • *Broad understanding of working environment --healthcare/NHS/UHB trust/acute care/community as applicable
