Job summary

A healthcare analytics company is seeking an experienced Band 3 Laboratory Technician in Blood Sciences. You will be responsible for rotating through all areas of the laboratories, preparing and processing clinical specimens, and maintaining high standards of safety. Candidates must have an NVQ3 or equivalent, experience in a biomedical laboratory, and a commitment to personal development. This full-time role requires night shifts and offers a supportive working environment.

Job description
Band 3 Laboratory Technician - Blood Sciences

We currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Band 3 Laboratory Technician in Blood Sciences. This role is part of a team which provides an efficient and effective Blood Sciences services to two general hospitals (Southend University/Basildon and Thurrock University Hospital Trusts) and local GP community. You will be expected to work at Basildon Hospital , Southend Hospital and the Hub laboratory.

Main duties of the job

As a Laboratory Technician you will be expected to be able to rotate through all areas of the Laboratories as required (Dependent on experience and training), to perform all designated duties in accordance with local working practices, to maintain high personal standards and conform to Health and Safety regulations. You will be be required to prepare and process clinical specimens for biomedical testing, within operating procedures and protocols.

You will be required to work full time with a shift pattern which includes nights. Shift pattern:

08.00am to 20.00pm

20.00pm to 08.00am

09.00am to 17.30pm

08.00am to 16.30pm

Job responsibilities

To be able to rotate through all areas of the Laboratories as required (Dependent on experience and training), to perform all designated duties in accordance with local working practices, to maintain high personal standards and conform to Health and Safety regulations.

To prepare and process clinical specimens for biomedical testing, within operating procedures and protocols.

To work within agreed quality standards of service delivery and turnaround times under the supervision of Associate Practitioners.

To continue with personal development through academic or practical experience.

To provide leadership and supervision, as directed, of trainee Medical Laboratory Assistants.

Report all incidents and adverse events to senior staff.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • NVQ3, or equivalent, level of knowledge, a minimum of 3 GCSEs.
  • Experience of working in a Biomedical laboratory.
  • Knowledge of computer applications in use within Pathology, particularly LIMS, Quality Management System and Procurement system.
  • High degree of dexterity required Working knowledge of the receipt and preparation of samples for biomedical testing.
  • Science A Levels or a degree entry qualification.
