Overview

A Vacancy at West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. We currently have one opening for a Band 2 Endoscopy Decontamination Technician position, with cross-site responsibilities at Watford General Hospital and Hemel Hempstead Hospital.

The Endoscopy units at Watford General Hospital and Hemel Hempstead Hospital carry out a range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures using a wide variety of flexible Endoscopes. The Decontamination units are JAG accredited utilising a pass-through system.

Also responsible for their area of co-ordination in the department, together with ensuring the environment is kept clean, safe and comfortable. Core shifts are Monday-Friday 8.00-16.00 or 10.00-18.00 with some weekend working.

Responsibilities
  • Decontaminate Endoscopes, working to the departmental systems, policies, procedures and guidelines as required.
  • Assist with the running of the Endoscopy Decontamination Services, and as part of a team to share the responsibility for maintenance and upkeep of all equipment.
  • Liaise with outside departments to ensure a quality service.
  • Be proactive in problem solving when equipment fails and be confident and competent when reporting any non-conformance.
  • Assist with the training and teaching of staff at all levels.
  • To manual clean all endoscopes.
  • Disinfect endoscopes using auto-disinfectors (in accordance with manufacturers, BSG, JAG and GIN guidelines).
  • To document all daily maintenance of machines and equipment as required.
  • To carry out all Endoscope and equipment tracking as required.
  • Comply with the daily documentation of the decontamination of all equipment.
  • Decontamination of all instruments and endoscopes as required.
  • Ensure that the right scopes are decontaminated.
  • Maintenance and upkeep of all endoscopes and all equipment in the Unit as required.
  • Assist with the organising of general and periodic machine servicing and action accordingly.
  • To work at either Watford General Hospital or Hemel Hempstead Hospital Endoscopy Decontamination units as required.
  • To carry out all training as required.

Additional Information

The post holder will work as an integral part of the Endoscopy Decontamination Team and part of the wider Integrated Decontamination Team, assisting in ensuring the departments run smoothly by Decontaminating and maintaining the endoscopes, working with specialist equipment and general supplies required in the department.

Carry out Daily equipment checks to adhere to health and safety regulations and organising the repair of all defects to be dealt with promptly. Ensure compliance with correct protocols is adhered to. To work at either Watford General Hospital or Hemel Hempstead Hospital Endoscopy Decontamination units as required. To carry out all training as required.
