Overview

As a bailiff you play a vital role in the UK’s Justice System, acting on the front line to support people at challenging points of their lives. Your work delivers a justice service that is accessible, efficient and focused on the needs of courts users.

Responsibilities
  • Visit people in their homes and businesses to explain court orders and offer options to resolve matters.
  • Assess circumstances quickly, adapt plans and lead with confidence in emotionally charged situations.
  • Manage your workload by planning days, adapting to short‑notice changes and keeping a clear record of activities.
  • Work safely using personal protective equipment, travel with a personal car or, after probation, a leased car (full UK driving licence required).
  • Receive and use IT training on court case management systems.
Qualifications & Behaviours

  • Communicating & Influencing – explain court orders clearly, demonstrate empathy, remain non‑judgmental.

  • Full UK driving licence and ability to use a leased car after probation.
  • Willingness to undergo a criminal record check and baseline personnel security checks.
Eligibility

Applicants must meet the UK immigration rules for the Civil Service. You need the legal right to live and work in the UK, for example: UK nationals, nationals of the Republic of Ireland, Commonwealth nationals with right to work, EU, Swiss, Norwegian, Icelandic or Liechtenstein nationals with settled or pre‑settled status, and other specified groups. The role does not sponsor Skilled Worker visas unless the applicant holds a continuous Skilled Worker visa since before 22 July 2025.
