B7 Lead Midwife - Maternity Triage/Maternity Day Case

As a Senior Midwife for Maternity Triage and Maternity Day Case you will take overall responsibility and accountability in ensuring women receive safe, clinically effective, women‑centred care. Working across the two sites of UHDB you will have a sound knowledge of the Birmingham Symptom‑specific Obstetric Triage System (BSOTS).

You will lead by example, offer expert midwifery clinical advice, operationally support and manage teams and services ensuring the delivery of high quality, effective and compassionate midwifery care across Maternity Triage and Maternity Day Case cross site at both Royal Derby Hospital and Queens Hospital, Burton.

Main duties of the job
  • You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver care to women, and will work flexibly across the service in supporting the delivery of midwifery care. Senior midwives provide expert clinical and professional midwifery leadership and are accountable for the women, babies, public and staff experience. This will be in line with local, Trust wide and national policies, procedures, values and behaviours.
  • To be visible and accessible as a leader in maternity services.
  • To be a role model and someone for whom women, staff and the public can turn to for assistance, advice and support.
  • Trust policies and procedures are implemented, monitored and adhered to.
  • The ward / department team is managed on a day‑to‑day basis reflecting HR policies and procedures, including staff performance / sickness and absence.
  • Staff will be coached, supported and appropriately signposted to other agencies.
  • Systems and processes are in place for women to receive high quality midwifery care across the 24‑hour period and clinical staff feel empowered to make their own decisions in the midwifery matron/senior midwives’ absence, reflecting the ward / department team philosophy of care.

Education, Training and Qualifications
  • Evidence of degree/working towards degree or relevant experience.
  • NMC Registration and revalidation requirements.
  • Leadership Qualification.
  • Evidence of degree / working towards higher degree or equivalent experience.
Experience and Knowledge
  • To be able to demonstrate theoretical knowledge of the Birmingham Symptom‑specific Obstetric Triage system.
  • To be able to demonstrate clinical experience relevant to the post.
  • To be able to demonstrate evidence of management/leadership skills gained through theoretical knowledge and or experience.
  • Demonstrable experience of mentoring, supporting, coaching and developing staff.
  • Specific knowledge of the clinical area/speciality.
  • Evidence of teaching/nurturing.
