Job summary

A leading UK forensic laboratory is seeking an Automation Integration Specialist to drive innovation in DNA laboratory workflows. You will develop and integrate automation platforms and lead projects to create efficient processes. The ideal candidate has a degree in Computer Science or Engineering, 3–5 years of experience with automation systems, and strong scripting skills in Python, Java, or similar languages. The role requires UK residency for the last five years for security clearance.

Our client a leading UK forensic laboratory is looking for an enthusiastic Automation Integration Specialist to join their team where you will helping drive innovation in state-of-the‑art DNA laboratory workflows.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in developing, integrating, and optimising automated systems that support critical forensic science processes.

What you’ll be doing
  • Developing and integrating automation platforms and software into DNA laboratory workflows
  • Writing and optimising automation protocols (e.g., Hamilton systems)
  • Leading or contributing to automation integration projects to create efficient processes
  • Creating test scripts and supporting validation and user acceptance testing
  • Monitoring system performance and supporting investigations into technical issues
  • Driving continuous improvement and contributing new ideas
  • Supporting cost–benefit analysis for future automation investments
Qualifications
  • Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
  • 3–5 years’ experience working with automation systems or system integration
  • Experience with scripting / programming (Python, Java, C++, VB.NET, or similar)
  • Understanding of automation standards (SiLA) or laboratory instrumentation (desirable)
  • A flexible, solution‑based thinker with strong problem‑solving skills
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to manage projects or technical tasks independently

Lab or forensic experience is a bonus, but not essential — we welcome applicants from engineering, robotics, or automation backgrounds who are eager to learn about laboratory workflows.

Due to the nature of the work undertaken, you must have lived in the UK for the last five years to pass mandatory security clearance screening.
