Armed Response Vehicle Officers – Operational Firearms Unit

Warwickshire Police are recruiting Armed Response Vehicle (ARV) Officers for the Operational Firearms Unit at our Leek Wootton Police HQ. PC Authorised Firearms Officers (tr‑trained to the National ARV role profile) who wish to transfer into Warwickshire will be considered.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide a rapid response to armed incidents across Warwickshire.
  • Support roads policing, OCG enforcement and pro‑active policing through Intel and ANPR‑based patrols.
  • Deploy to all armed incidents during your tour of duty and to planned deployments.
  • Assist with voluntary call‑out contingencies for armed operations.
  • Support other policing functions, including planned arrests of dangerous offenders, tactical options for pursuits and county‑lines operations.
Application Criteria
Required
  • Substantive Constable serving (or have served) with a Home Office Force or British Transport Police.
  • Current Authorised Firearms Officer, trained to the National ARV Role Profile.
  • Pass and maintain the Fitness Test to level 9‑4A.
  • No outstanding discipline or integrity issues.
  • Successfully completed your probationary period with your Force prior to applying.
  • Be a current serving police officer in a Home Office force or British Transport Police.
  • Final offer subject to approval of training records and transfer by the CFI.
Desirable
  • Hold the OFC role profile.
  • Current advanced police driver with TPAC.
  • Current ARV with CBRN uplift training.
  • National Firearms Instructor, Firearms Tactical Advisor or close‑protection officer.

  • Salary £31,164 – £50,256.
  • One‑off payment of £1,000 on successful transfer to Warwickshire Police.
  • Annual Target Variable Payment (TVP) of £1,500 per annum for qualifying AFOs.
  • Annual TVP of £750 per annum for qualifying OFCs.

  • Opportunities for role progression to PC OFC, close protection officer, or National Firearms Instructor.

Shift Pattern & Training

Work a 10‑week, 5‑shift system: a 4‑on, 4‑off pattern of 12‑hour shifts for 8 weeks, followed by 2 weeks of Monday‑Thursday 8‑hour shifts dedicated to mandatory training. The 5th shift allows teams to train together or support proactive policing and campaigns. Training is tailored to provide stimulating locations, and excellent range facilities are available through partnerships.
