About the business unit

Mott MacDonald’s Advisory and Programme Delivery (APD) unit delivers project, programme, and commercial management (PPCM) services and advisory solutions across the built environment, defence, energy, water, environmental, transportation, health and care sectors. We provide tailored solutions that address our clients’ key challenges by combining project expertise with programme delivery and advisory capabilities. APD serves projects ranging in scale and complexity up to £20bn, through the disciplines of programme management, project management, project controls, scheduling, cost management, estimating, infrastructure finance, management consulting, digital consulting and education, health and care management.

Overview of the role

Are you passionate about navigating the complexities of large-scale infrastructure projects and ensuring their success? We are seeking an established Associate Risk Manager to lead risk assessment and mitigation strategies and contribute to shaping some of the UK’s most exciting projects.

What you will contribute to the team
  • Undertake assurance reviews of risk deliverables and methodologies to confirm conformance to best practice
  • Inform the development of Business Cases, Investment Decisions and Appraisals, including assuring the quality of risk evidence
  • Operate as a consultant within a client environment, embedding expertise into client teams
  • Coach, develop and supervise project staff and share knowledge and expertise
  • Build strong relationships with clients, teams and stakeholders
  • Demonstrate strong stakeholder management experience
Candidate specification

We are looking for candidates with a proven and significant track record as a Senior Risk Manager in an engineering environment. This experience can be within clientside, consultancy, or contractor roles in sectors such as highways, defence, energy, rail, aviation, water, environmental, oil, nuclear, and similar construction-focused industries.

Required for the position of Associate Risk Manager:

  • Proven track record in risk management on large-scale construction projects in Defence, Nuclear, Energy, Water, Transport, Environment, Buildings, Aviation, Oil or similar industries
  • Ability to operate autonomously and as part of a larger team
  • Flexibility to travel and work in different sectors and with varied clients
  • Degree level education in risk, project management, engineering, mathematics or related disciplines
  • Professional Membership with an applicable professional organisation
  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • Good research and analytical skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication and organisational skills
  • Essential soft skills include effective listening, persuasion, collaborative style, leadership, flexibility, self-motivation, creativity and insightfulness
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft applications
