Job description
Overview

Full-time 37.5 hours per week. Permanent post. The job holder will work as part of a team providing support to the Laboratory Medicine department by assisting in routine analytical tasks and procedures under the supervision of a State Registered Biomedical Scientist. Applications are invited for a suitably qualified individual to work as part of a professional and efficient team in our busy Blood Sciences Laboratories.

The successful candidate will join our friendly team of experienced Biomedical Scientists and support staff. The post will be within the Clinical Chemistry Department of the Blood Sciences Laboratory. Rotation through other sections of Chemistry will be required once fully trained and competency assessed. The post holder must be available to work shift patterns to support the service as and when required.

Responsibilities
  • Perform routine procedures involving scientific and technical work to aid clinicians in the effective diagnosis and treatment of patients.
  • Support and supervise the training of Medical Laboratory Assistants and Support Workers.
  • Participate in supervision and training within the laboratory team.
  • Assist in routine analytical tasks and procedures under supervision of a State Registered Biomedical Scientist.
  • Be prepared to rotate through other sections of Chemistry once trained and competency assessed.
  • Work flexibly to support the service, including potential weekend and evening work.
Requirements and Conditions
  • Must be suitably qualified to join a professional and efficient team in a busy Blood Sciences Laboratory.
  • Role within the Clinical Chemistry Department of the Blood Sciences Laboratory.
  • The laboratories are well equipped, computerised, UKAS accredited and HCPC approved.
  • The Blood Sciences Laboratories process around 900,000 patient samples per year.
  • Encouragement and support to participate in further education, training and Continuing Professional Development; discussable during interview.
  • Availability to work shift patterns to support the service as required, with some weekend and evening work.
