Overview

You will be part of a small but influential Commercial Team, working across a range of business areas within the Gambling Commission. Your role will shape and advise on compliant commercial solutions, lead procurement activity, and drive value for money. You’ll also play a key part in helping the Commission move towards full alignment with the Government Functional Standard for Commercial.

This is a pivotal time for public procurement. Your expertise will ensure compliance with the Procurement Act 2023 and the National Procurement Policy Statement, while helping us leverage these changes to deliver ethical, sustainable, and commercially sound outcomes.

The team:

The Commercial Team manage contracts for the Commission across the whole of the contract lifecycle, from pre-procurement through procurement contract transition to contract management and contract exit. We are a small, high performing team with significant exposure to stakeholders and the opportunity to engage in commercial transformation.

Responsibilities

Your responsibilities:

  • Lead key elements of the end-to-end commercial lifecycle, including pre-market engagement, sourcing, and contract award.
  • Manage a range of commercial projects independently and collaboratively.
  • Influence and support stakeholders to deliver strategic commercial outcomes.
  • Maintain and manage the Commission’s commercial pipeline to enable early engagement and optimal commercial planning.
  • Understand supply markets and business context to inform commercial strategy.
  • Shape and influence markets through strategic partnerships and sector collaboration.
  • Champion commercial capability across the Commission and wider stakeholders.
  • Contribute to savings planning and ensure savings are tracked and realised.
  • Ensure effective procurement and category management processes are followed.

What we’re looking for:

Essential criteria (assessed at shortlisting and interview):

  • Commercial Experience - Experience working in a procurement, commercial, or buying role, ideally within or with the public sector.
  • Stakeholder Engagement - Ability to influence and support stakeholders to deliver commercial outcomes.
  • Value for Money Delivery - Evidence of securing value for money through procurement or contract management.
  • Commercial Strategies and Planning - Experience managing commercial projects or procurement activities to successful outcomes starting with the right strategic consideration of options
  • Adaptability & Collaboration - Ability to work flexibly across teams and manage competing priorities.

Desirable criteria (assessed at interview):

  • Experience of public sector procurement regulations and frameworks.
  • Experience managing the full commercial lifecycle.
  • Professional qualification (e.g. CIPS Level 4 or equivalent) or willingness to work towards it.

Alongside your salary of £42,000, Gambling Commission contributes £12,167 towards you being a member of the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme.
