Overview

We are seeking an Assistant Research Manager for a 3-month contract to join our Application & Funding team at the University of Southampton, The first point of contact for NIHR research funding applicants.

The team is responsible for:

  • Scheduling and launching new funding opportunities
  • Managing and overseeing peer review of applications
  • Scrutinising applications and flagging issues to panels/boards
  • Supporting applicants and organising external advisory meetings
  • Managing panel membership for shortlisting and funding decisions
Key Responsibilities
  • Support the delivery and improvement of research management processes
  • Oversee and delegate administrative tasks, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
  • Provide advice and guidance to applicants and stakeholders
  • Organise meetings and coordinate logistics
  • Maintain high-quality data on relevant systems
  • Contribute to continuous process improvement
Person Specification

Essential:

  • Experience managing multiple priorities and working to tight deadlines
  • Strong organisational and communication skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure and as part of a team
  • Confident in providing advice to stakeholders and applicants
  • A-levels/NVQ3 or equivalent experience

Desirable:

  • Experience in research administration or funding
  • Health background (useful but not essential)
