Job description

Role: Assistant Project Manager / Project Engineer

Location: Worcester

Salary: Up to £45,000

Role Overview

We are seeking a Project Engineer to support the technical delivery of structural steel projects from design through fabrication and installation. The role is focused on engineering coordination, technical problem‑solving, and project support, ensuring designs are buildable, compliant, and delivered efficiently.

While this is not a pure detailing role, a background in Tekla Structures is essential to enable effective coordination with detailing teams, review models and drawings, and resolve technical issues throughout the project lifecycle.

This role would suit someone who has progressed from a steel detailing or draughting background into a broader project engineering position.

Key Responsibilities
Project Engineering & Technical Coordination
  • Act as a key technical link between design, detailing, fabrication, and site teams.
  • Review engineering information, drawings, and models to ensure accuracy and buildability.
  • Manage RFIs, technical queries, and design clarifications through to resolution.
  • Support construction sequencing and method development from a technical perspective.
  • Assist Project Managers with technical input during planning and delivery stages.
Engineering & Quality Support
  • Ensure engineering solutions align with project specifications and standards.
  • Support quality inspections, snagging, and technical close‑out activities.
  • Contribute to risk reduction by identifying technical issues early.
Tekla / Technical Review (Supportive, Not Primary)
  • Use Tekla knowledge to review and interrogate models and drawings, not solely to produce them.
  • Coordinate with detailing teams to ensure models reflect engineering intent and site requirements.
  • Identify clashes, detailing issues, and buildability risks within Tekla outputs.
Collaboration & Communication
  • Attend design meetings, coordination workshops, and site meetings as required.
  • Communicate clearly with internal teams, subcontractors, and external stakeholders.
  • Provide technical guidance where needed to support smooth project delivery.
Candidate Profile
Essential
  • Experience working as a Project Engineer, Assistant Engineer, or similar technical coordination role.
  • Strong background in structural steel projects.
  • Previous hands‑on experience with Tekla Structures (from a detailing/draughting or BIM background).
  • Ability to review and understand Tekla models and fabrication drawings.
  • Strong understanding of buildability, fabrication, and site constraints.
  • Confident communicator with strong problem‑solving skills.
Why This Role

This role plays a critical part in ensuring engineering information is technically sound, coordinated, and buildable, helping projects run smoothly from early design through to site delivery. It offers a clear path for progression into Senior Project Engineer or Project Management roles.
