About The Role

Assistant Project Manager – Power Transmission & Distribution

Location: Bramford Substation (with site and office-based working)

We are seeking an Assistant Project Manager to support growing demand on the Bramford Substation project within the Power Transmission & Distribution (T&D) sector. This role offers the opportunity to play a key part in the successful delivery of a major infrastructure project, supporting the Project Manager / Project Director across all stages of the project lifecycle.

You will hold sectional or partial accountability for project delivery and act as a proactive change agent, helping to drive performance, collaboration, and continuous improvement across a multi‑disciplinary team.

What you’ll be doing
  • periodic project reviews (PRM) and update the Digital Briefcase in accordance with GBL
  • Assist to maintain accurate project records (progress, daily diaries etc.)
  • Prepare both internal/external reports and liaise with stakeholders
  • Initiate good scope/information/configuration management principles
  • Help to ensure reports provide relevant information to enable informed, cost‑effective decisions in line with overall strategy
  • Help to ensure scope and package assignment supports the team in coordinated working
  • Ensure a relentless focus on Zero Harm & keep up to date with changes in legislation
  • Partially responsible for the safety and welfare of the general public, employees and supply chain
  • Carry out periodic Safety & Environmental tours/promote observation and safety initiatives
  • Support Accident/Incident Investigations
  • Monitor effectiveness of the H&S Management System and implement improvement solutions
  • Help to develop, implement and update resource allocation plans (OBS) and raise appropriate requests
  • Motivate and empower the team using the resources available through training, mentoring and performance management
  • Produce plans for the team to achieve goals/aspirations
  • Assist the Project Manager to lead risk/opportunity reviews, present the Risk
  • Register and recommend/implement changes
  • Log and escalate any issues that cannot be resolved at delegated level of authority
  • Assist management of subcontractors, including monitoring of contractor attendance and progress, providing direct instruction and support as necessary, such that contractual arrangements are achieved
  • Help to ensure procurement plans are available in line with the overall project plans, such that material/resources/supply chain can be delivered to meet scheduled deadlines
  • Follow targets/KPI’s in line with project objectives and monitor performance
  • Ensure assurance activities (audits) are undertaken and take appropriate action on findings
  • Help to develop, implement and periodically update resource loaded schedules
  • Ensure team adopt productivity and project controls techniques
  • Monitor progress and implement Short Interval Control processes/hold weekly meeting
  • Ensure production of operational milestones reflect master schedule and customer expectation
  • Ensure that expenditure is in line with the budget and that resources are utilised efficiently to ensure cost control
  • Able to identify elements for cost recovery from others
  • Incorporate and balance both operational and commercial constraints into decision making
  • Analyse, appraise and implement CEs
Who we’re looking for

  • Proficient in commercial/project management communications
  • Able to communicate effectively both verbal and written with all levels of the organisation
  • Good interpersonal skills that enable working relationships to be developed at all levels across the business and be able to negotiate and influence
  • Able to undertake work in high pressure situations with a flexible attitude
  • A record of a solutions‑based approach to problem solving
The following qualities/experience are desirable
  • Experience of working on a variety of project types
  • Is a member of a professional management body i.e. APM
  • Proficient on O365
  • Holds a current driving licence
The role holder is likely to have one or more of the following
  • Holds or working towards a formal qualification (BSc/MSc) in management/construction or experience equivalent
  • Holds or working towards either the APM PFQ/PMQ
  • Holds CSCS and SSSTS or Equivalent
