Job description
Who are we

We are Pershing Consultants a human-centric engineering project partner supporting critical infrastructure development across the UK.

We specialise in the project management of energy infrastructure projects including solar wind energy storage hydrogen and nuclear.

We have a wealth of experience in managing the entire project lifecycle from the initial conceptualisation, site selection and feasibility studies to engineering design, procurement, construction and commissioning.

Our team is well-versed in industry regulations and has a proven track record in delivering projects on time, within budget and to the highest standards of quality and safety.

The Role

As an Assistant Project Manager / Project Controls Engineer you will support Project Managers by delivering high‑quality project controls across schedule, cost, risk, reporting and project documentation. You will work as part of integrated project teams and help bring consistency and best practice to major renewable energy projects.

Most of your work will focus on project controls but you may also take on broader project‑management responsibilities depending on project needs. Projects are primarily solar, wind, battery and hydrogen developments in the pre‑application stage, many of which are designated Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs) and follow the Development Consent Order (DCO) process.

There is flexibility in the role and your responsibilities will vary depending on project demands, the capability needs of the Pershing PM team and your own skills and interests. Supported by Pershing’s PMO Lead you will typically be involved in the following:

Key Responsibilities
Project Controls
  • Project planning and scheduling: Develop and maintain project schedules in Microsoft Project, liaise with the supply chain for updates and communicate schedule changes to keep the team aligned with delivery goals.
  • Cost management: Assist with developing budgets, forecasting costs and monitoring actuals against budget.
  • Risk management: Set up and maintain risk registers, identify key risks and opportunities and communicate these effectively to the project team.
Project Delivery Support
  • Scope and change management: Monitor alignment between scope deliverables and invoices. Support the development and application of change control processes.
  • Reporting: Gather cost and schedule information from suppliers and produce clear accurate reports for project boards and senior client stakeholders.
  • Document control: Administer project SharePoint and Teams sites, manage documentation and maintain organised, accessible project records.
  • Production management: Develop trackers for DCO deliverable production, coordinate document reviews and monitor progress against schedule expectations.
PMO and Internal Operations
  • PMO development: Contribute to the creation and improvement of tools, processes and frameworks that enhance project management capability across Pershing.
  • Operations management: Support internal systems related to resource planning, pipeline management and other business operations tools.
Location

This is a hybrid role based primarily from home but with the requirement to meet with the PMO team in either central Manchester or London once a week.

Requirements
Key Behavioural Competencies
  • Analytical: Accuracy is essential. You should be detail‑oriented, patient in resolving data gaps and committed to providing correct information first time.
  • Adaptable: You will work across multiple projects and client organisations with different levels of project management maturity. You should be flexible and responsive to changing priorities and client needs.
  • Friendly and collaborative: Building strong relationships helps you gather information effectively, especially in busy project environments. Being approachable and supportive is key.
  • Process improver: You should be proactive in standardising ways of working, suggesting improvements and exploring modern project management tools and methodologies.
Desirable Qualifications Knowledge and Skills
  • Degree in a relevant subject such as Project Management, Project Controls, Planning, Quantity Surveying or Business Analytics.
  • Experience using project management or planning software (especially Microsoft Project).
  • Familiarity with Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) or the DCO process, particularly in the pre‑application phase.
  • A project management qualification (e.g. APM PFQ or PMQ).
  • Experience in Project Management or Project Controls ideally within the infrastructure or energy sectors.
Benefits

We believe you should be rewarded fairly for the work that you do. In addition to a competitive salary, you will also receive an enhanced benefits package that includes company profit share, flexible and remote working options and a tailored development plan.

Required Education

Project management qualifications (e.g. APM PRINCE2) desirable but not essential.
