Assistant Farm Manager job Layers (Egg Production) & Arable - Durham

About the Farm:

We are a well-established poultry (124,000 layers) and arable enterprise (1100 acres) based in County Durham, committed to high-welfare, sustainable egg production and efficient arable operations. Our poultry rations are produced in-house at our own on-site feed mill, ensuring quality and consistency. As part of our continued growth, we are looking for a proactive and capable Assistant Farm Manager to support the management of our layer units and help oversee our arable land.

The Role:

Working closely with the Farm Owner, you will play a key role in the day-to-day running of our free-range/commercial layer units and assist in managing our arable operations. This is a hands-on role suited to someone with a passion for poultry welfare and practical farming experience.

Key Responsibilities:

•Support the daily management of layer flocks, ensuring excellent bird health, welfare, and egg quality

•Monitor feed, water, lighting and housing conditions

•Record and analyse flock performance, working with vets and nutritionists when needed

•Maintain compliance with industry standards including Lion Code, RSPCA Assured and Red Tractor

•Assist with arable activities including field preparation, drilling, spraying, and harvesting

•Operate and maintain farm equipment and machinery

•Supervise and motivate staff, especially during peak periods

•Contribute to health & safety practices and biosecurity protocols

What Were Looking For:

•Previous experience in poultry farming, preferably with layers

•Experience of arable operations

•Excellent attention to detail and record-keeping

•Strong communication and teamwork skills

•A self-starter with the ability to work independently when required

•Full UK driving licence (telehandler/forklift ticket an advantage)
