GMAT is a cross‑phase Multi Academy Trust based in Cheshunt, currently comprising two secondaries and two primaries – Goffs Academy, Goffs‑Churchgate Academy, Flamstead End School and Oakview Primary School. Across the Trust, we have just under 3,000 students and employ just under 400 staff. The Trust also operates nursery provision on the Goffs‑Churchgate site, with subsidised and term‑time only places for staff, run by Ashbourne Nurseries.
All schools are situated in close proximity, sharing many activities, including CPD for staff. One of the Trust’s fundamental principles is that no school or phase is more important or successful than another. CPD and other events are rotated through all schools, and everyone learns from and shares with each other. This collegiate and collaborative approach permeates our Trust.
The Trust’s finances are overseen by a highly skilled Chief Finance Officer with considerable private‑sector expertise, and a highly experienced Management Accountant. The Trust deliberately created an innovative Income Generation function, with extensive lettings and business development work now yielding around £600k per annum. This underpins generous levels of staffing and many “extras” that would otherwise be unaffordable.
GMAT is a fully centralised MAT, with all schools able to access dedicated, expert advice and support from centralised functions in HR, Finance, Income Generation, Data/Business Analysis, ICT and Estates.
The Trust is extremely clear about its daily purpose, reflected in its motto: “no set destiny for any child.” All schools, leaders and staff believe fiercely in the life‑changing nature of education and work tirelessly toward that end.
The Trust has been expanding for years and needs additional qualified staff as it grows. This apprenticeship provides an opportunity to gain the knowledge and experience necessary to slot seamlessly into a role within the finance function should one become available. It also offers a pathway to become a qualified accountant, continuing studies post‑apprenticeship and making you an attractive proposition for any employer.
