Job description
Overview

The Ministry of Defence employs over 50,000 Civil Servants. Within that, the Army Top Level Budget (TLB) employs around 12,000 MOD Civil Servants located at over 300 locations. Ours is a diverse work-force, with roles ranging from trainers, human resources, teachers, and psychologists to storekeepers, financiers, project and programme managers, and policy secretariat staff. There are many different functions and professions delivering key outputs for the Army. The Royal School of Artillery is the Royal Artillery Centre of Excellence and plays a key role in the development of Royal Artillery procedures and the continued training to deliver trained and motivated service personnel capable of operating the latest artillery systems. 14th Regiment is the Artillery\'s Training Regiment, preparing and developing the Soldiers and Officers of the future. The Regiment also the enabling component of the wider School of Artillery.

We are looking for a motivated and driven individual to join the Technical Quartermaster\'s department (TQMS) in the role of Senior Storekeeper. We are looking for a friendly, well-organised and adaptable person to work alongside other civilians and military personnel and be part of the team.

The position is advertised at 37 hours per week. As a Workshops Senior Storekeeper you will be expected to:

Responsibilities
  • Keep tools and equipment in the A-Line tool store secure and fit for use, including generic tools and specialist Equipment Establishment items for A Vehs
  • Work without close supervision and provide advice to junior storekeeping staff whilst checking accuracy of their work and monitoring and maintaining the workflow
  • Be prepared to deputise for the Executive Officer TQMS
  • Gain and demonstrate in-depth knowledge of MJDI, OLIVER and LEIDOS IT systems
  • Liaise with external organisations or contractors where/when required or as directed by the line manager and give advice to units and deal with situations as they arise
  • Process all demands for Expense stores
  • Process all receipts & issues for Expense stores, tools and equipment demanded, including highlighting discrepancy details to the TQMS
  • Assist the TQMS and any inspecting officer in physical stock checks and any subsequent documentation and provide information to assist in process matters
  • Take the lead in the preparation of equipment for calibration, the return of calibrated equipment to the Workshop, and management of the calibration register
  • Assist the TQMS and Workshop staff to prepare equipment for backloading or issue outside the unit
  • Maintain an acceptable quality of service and professionalism in the discharge of Senior Storekeeper duties whilst being constantly aware of health and safety aspects within areas of personal control including the health and safety of subordinate staff
  • Remain flexible and be prepared to react to emerging work within skill set
  • Liaise with external organisations (e.g. freight companies) to ensure demands are met in accordance with the Required Delivery Date

In-house and external training related to the role will be provided.

  • A storekeeper role requires a degree of physical ability as you will be expected to handle items around the working area. In accordance with HSE guidance, the recommended maximum manual handling weight that applicants can expect to lift is 25kg (for men) or 16kg (for women).

Other notes

The post does not offer relocation expenses. External recruits will be subject to a six-month probation period. Travel interview expenses are not reimbursed.
