Overview

Area Sales Manager — British manufacturer / global company. Mechanical engineering components. World class training and professional development. Base salary £48,000 to £60,000 (experience dependent) with on target earnings of £70,000+ including home office, company car, pension, laptop, mobile phone, credit card and bonus. Yorkshire, UK. Home based with potential to live in Leeds, Bradford, Harrogate, Hull, Sheffield, York, Doncaster, Grimsby, Scunthorpe, Scarborough, Huddersfield, Northallerton, Skipton, Pontefract, Barnsley, and surrounding areas. Mercury Hampton is working exclusively with this client.

A world-leading manufacturer of rotating equipment and mechanical components for applications across sectors including chemical, oil & gas, food and beverage, pulp and paper, mining, process, defence, power, wastewater and pharmaceutical. Established for many years with a global footprint across more than 100 countries. They manufacture products, systems and solutions to enhance pump efficiency and reliability and to reduce maintenance downtime and cost. Due to retirement this world-class company is seeking a sales professional with a mechanical engineering background to manage this important region.

Responsibilities
  • Report to the UK Sales Manager and take responsibility for business activities throughout the Yorkshire region.
  • Account management and new client acquisition with a split of approximately 70% strategic key account management and 30% new business activity.
  • Engage with a diverse client base across multiple industrial, process and manufacturing environments. This is technical solution selling requiring a mechanical engineering aptitude along with strong sales skills.
  • Possess a strong mechanical engineering aptitude and/or qualification (engineering apprenticeship and/or engineering degree).
  • Operate in a home-based role with regular customer visits; one day at home office and four days dedicated to developing and managing customers.
  • Report all sales and quotation activity monthly; receive support from internal sales engineers for technical backing.
  • Demonstrate strong account management and business development skills and a mechanical engineering mindset; realistic earnings £70,000+.
The Candidate
  • External sales experience in related sectors (mechanical seals, rotating equipment, pumps, valves, etc.).
  • Mechanical engineering background; client open to strong industrial sales professionals with good engineering understanding.
  • Knowledge of rotating equipment, mechanical seals, pumps, motors, gearboxes, compressors and related components is highly beneficial.
  • Strong strategic thinker with the ability to build relationships, manage key accounts and develop new business.
  • Eye for upselling/cross-selling opportunities; excellent communication skills across various levels.
  • Proven B2B sales track record; dynamic, proactive attitude.
  • An engineering qualification is advantageous but not essential; mechanical engineering apprenticeship also desirable.
  • Extensive product training will be provided.
