Job description
Overview

We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Apprenticeship Skills Coach to join MTC Training. This will be a home-based role with national travel.

MTC's vision is to develop a training capability that embeds adaptable knowledge, skills and behaviours to future proof UK manufacturing. Aligning technical content identified in MTC's core business to our apprenticeship and commercial (engineer upskilling) is at the core of our strategy.

As Apprenticeship Skills Coach, your role is to ensure apprentices receive support, guidance and encouragement to succeed in their apprenticeship programme. The role will bridge the gap between academic learning and practical workplace application with employers, and you will be involved in developing the new curriculum to ensure it is focused on industry practice and the learner journey.

Responsibilities
  • Manage a caseload of engineering and manufacturing apprentices
  • Monitor the health, safety and welfare of apprentices
  • Provide end to end information, advice and guidance on skills development, End Point Assessment and career development
  • Monitor and record progress against the Standard to ensure apprentices are developing the knowledge, skills and behaviours required prior to their planned end dates
  • Conduct regular documented progress reviews with apprentices and their employers as per funding rules
  • Monitor apprentice off-the-job records
  • Complete any funding/MIS documentation such as Breaks in Learning, withdrawals on a timely basis
  • Plan and complete assessment of development competence qualifications
  • Plan and complete assessments of apprentice's knowledge, skills and behaviours development, and build subsequent action plans for improvement where required
  • Use coaching methods in partnership with training centre colleagues and employers, to help apprentices develop and apply knowledge, skills and behaviours in their workplace
  • Build and maintain relationships with apprentices and their employers to facilitate effective communication and collaboration ensuring that apprentices complete their apprenticeship within the planned duration
  • Provide regular caseload progress updates to the Leadership Team
  • Collaborate with Business Development colleagues to identify repeat and new business
Who we are looking for

We’re looking for an experienced Apprenticeship Skills Coach with a strong background and experience of engineering (mechanical or electrical or electronic; multi-skilled is preferable).

You’ll be a customer and quality focused coach, who can operate across all MTC Training and client locations. The position will suit somebody who’s approachable, and able to handle issues with sensitivity and confidentiality.

You’ll need to be able to demonstrate the ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines, working both independently with initiative and in a team. You’ll be articulate, with strong communication skills, good organisation skills and excellent attention to detail. A commitment to safeguarding and the safety and wellbeing of children and young people is essential.

Requirements

You’ll also be required to have:

  • An understanding of assessment methods and techniques
  • An understanding of coaching methods
  • An understanding of engineering Apprenticeship Standards
  • An understanding of apprenticeship funding rules
  • An understanding of End Point Assessment
  • An understanding of Safeguarding and the Prevent Duty
  • Ideally experience of using e-portfolios (ideally Smart Assessor)
  • Ideally experience of using learner management systems, such as Pro Monitor
Essential Qualifications
  • Level 3 Engineering qualification
  • Recognised teaching qualification or willingness to gain this
  • Recognised Assessor qualification, such as A1 or Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement
Desirable
  • Functional Skills Level 2 / GCSEs or equivalent in Maths and English grade C or above
  • Recognised Quality Assurance qualification, such as V1 or Level 4 Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice
  • Recognised coaching qualification
  • Higher qualification (level 4 or above) in an Engineering discipline
  • Digital training qualifications relevant to education (e.g., Microsoft Learn badges)
