The role

As an Apprenticeship Coach – Armourer, you’ll be instrumental in guiding the next generation of defence‑sector professionals. You’ll support and assess armourer apprentices in the workplace, helping them build the skills and confidence they need to succeed. This is a unique opportunity to combine your vocational expertise with meaningful mentorship, making a real difference to learners and contributing to Babcock’s delivery across military contracts.

Day-to-day you’ll be:

  • Supporting, motivating and coaching learners through their apprenticeship programme
  • Delivering scheduled visits and completing all required documentation
  • Monitoring learner progress and ensuring timely completion of programme components
  • Providing portfolio-building advice and guidance
  • Collaborating with internal teams to maintain quality, compliance and learner success

Please note that this position involves travel/working across a range of internal and customer sites, as a requirement of the role.

The role is based onsite at Tidworth, with travel to Lyneham and Southampton. Set working times are Monday to Friday, totalling 37 hours per week. One day per week is home-based for planning and administration.

Essential experience of the Apprenticeship Coach – Armourer:
  • Considerable experience in a relevant industry environment – Welding or Metal Fabrication
  • Strong understanding of work-based learning programmes
  • Previous experience in the defence sector, ideally within the army arena
Qualifications for the Apprenticeship Coach – Armourer:
  • Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (or equivalent)
  • Award/Certificate in Education & Training (or equivalent)
  • GCSE grade C or above (or equivalent) in Maths and English
  • Relevant industry-related qualification (minimum Level 3)

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) and Enhanced DBS security clearance for this role.
