Job description
Overview

Responsible for the build and support of the Trust EPR Applications and other clinical systems, including Oracle/Cerner iClip, and for the Operational Management and Data Quality of clinical systems and their integration with current and future developments.

Responsibilities
  • Provide operational management for the trusts main clinical systems, ensuring processes are effective, integrated and in line with Trust standards.
  • Continually review data quality with the Build and Support Manager and Head of Information, including CSW Clinical coding.
  • Work with informatics colleagues to ensure clinical system functionality aligns with business processes/workflows.
  • Collaborate with the Head of IT Service Delivery on quality and IT service improvement.
  • Lead the Operations of the Applications and Clinical Systems Department and lead operationally for the Trust for applications and clinical systems with external parties (e.g., other care settings).
  • Organise communication to all users of clinical systems (workshops, e‑learning, guidance documents, newsletters) to ensure staff understand best practices in system functionality and data quality.
  • Analyse and determine appropriate action in complex hardware/software malfunction scenarios to maintain systems and protect patient care.
  • Ensure staff are updated and trained on changes to systems; work autonomously within policies and external regulations; manage deadlines and priorities."
  • Liaise with external IDT system and software suppliers to assist with problem resolution.
Clinical Systems & Data Quality
  • Maintain knowledge of clinical system functionality, security, upgrades, and relevant national requirements (e.g., ISB, Spine projects).
  • Plan and manage upgrades, enhancements or patches; conduct regular and ad hoc testing.
  • Organise and prioritise workload with clinical/administrative staff to resolve user issues and align system functionality to business processes/workflows.
  • Maximise benefits of clinical systems and promote efficiency in working practices.
  • Ensure users receive effective support to minimise non-usability for individuals or teams.
  • Support testing/research of new clinical systems applications and hardware used by the Trust.
Data Quality
  • Ensure regular analysis of Clinical Systems and prompt correction of errors to minimise risk to patient care.
  • Maximise trust income by ensuring efficient data entry of CDS data and minimising data errors within deadlines.
  • Maintain data confidentiality and compliance with information governance requirements.
  • Raise data quality across St George’s and subdivisions, ensuring compliance with national targets.
  • Perform regular audits to ensure compliance with Data Quality standards; develop related policies and procedures.
  • Work with Informatics colleagues to develop policies supporting system functionality and data quality for service development.
Policies
  • Ensure adherence to IDT and Information Governance policies.
  • Create, maintain and review Clinical Operational Policy and Procedures.
Human Resources
  • Line manage the Applications Build and Support Teams and associated staff in line with Trust guidelines.
  • Assist in recruitment and staff development; manage day-to-day delegation of duties; maintain records of leave and sickness.
  • Lead and develop team morale and motivation; provide corporate support to all staff.
Project Management
  • Lead application and service-improvement projects as delegated; work with the IDT Projects Team on access permissions and support processes.
  • Support IDT and Trust project delivery through steering groups, scoping and related meetings, particularly for BAU requirements.
Research & Development
  • Proactively review new technologies related to application support, provisioning, and integration; pursue relevant training for personal development.
  • Develop staff within data quality and Applications Build and Support Teams via development plans and appraisals.
Communication
  • Maintain effective relationships with IDT staff and service users; participate in team meetings to improve service quality.
  • Coordinate communications with 3rd parties; escalate issues when required; ensure policies are communicated effectively.
  • Represent the IDT Department in meetings with internal and external stakeholders; handle complex or sensitive information with diplomacy.
Other Duties
  • Assist in producing ad hoc reports and undertake any other duties as appropriate to the banding.
