Job Title: Technical Sales Support & Modifications Planning Manager
Location: On-site (Huddersfield)
Department: Technical & Modifications
Employment: Permanent
Reports to: Global Product Manager
Hours: 08:30 - 16:30

Job Summary

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced Applications/Technical Engineer to join a well‑established Technical & Modifications Department on a permanent basis. This key role involves providing technical expertise, engineering support, and hands‑on management of the modifications function. You will lead the delivery of high‑quality engineering solutions, oversee product modifications, and support internal and external stakeholders to ensure excellent customer satisfaction and operational efficiency. The ideal candidate will be confident applying AC motor theory, electrical and mechanical engineering principles, and modern drive technologies to support product development, modifications, and after‑sales activities. This position requires a blend of technical ability, analytical thinking, strong communication skills, and a proactive approach to problem‑solving.

Key Responsibilities
  • Apply understanding of motor theory and component design for both induction and permanent magnet motors.
  • Use knowledge of modern drive techniques and Eco‑Design requirements.
  • Apply motor applications theory, including operation within Hazardous Area environments and selection of suitable motor types for sales and new product launches.
  • Conduct basic electrical and mechanical calculations using spreadsheets.
  • Use CAD software to create 2D and 3D drawings (training provided).
  • Support Internal/External Sales teams and the Modifications Department with day‑to‑day technical queries and tasks.
  • Create product items and Bills of Materials for modification orders.
  • Prepare and issue documentation such as type test certificates, datasheets, and outline drawings.
  • Liaise with suppliers, create specifications, and assist with technical queries and fault investigations.
  • Provide technical guidance to customers for new products and after‑sales support.
  • Lead and manage the Modifications Department to ensure work is completed OTIF and to the required quality standards.
  • Oversee capacity planning within the modifications team.
  • Coordinate picking and re‑stocking of spare parts in collaboration with the Supply Chain Manager.
  • Ensure customer returns are processed effectively and within agreed processes and timelines.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Strong knowledge and experience with AC motors is essential.
  • Engineering degree preferred, though relevant experience (ideally AC motor‑related) is highly valued.
  • Meticulous attention to detail with strong problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent organisational and planning capabilities for managing the modifications workflow.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments.
  • Previous team management experience is desirable.
  • Enthusiasm for learning and developing new skills.
  • Strong IT skills, particularly Excel; SAP experience is advantageous.
Training & Development
  • Full training to build technical and practical engineering skills.
  • Training on managing the Modifications Department.
  • Ongoing mentorship from experienced team members.
