Wealth Solutions: Retirement

UK companies invest more in pension schemes than the rest of Europe combined. Our consultants advise clients on defined benefit pension schemes, helping them manage financial and operational risks now and in the future. As a graduate, you will work with the most creative minds in the industry, earning as you learn and building your career as an Actuary.

Your role as an Actuarial Graduate in Wealth Solutions: Retirement

As an actuarial graduate, you will work on a range of client teams providing advice and support to trustees or the company sponsoring the scheme. Our aim is to develop you into a trusted advisor quickly, through technical and consulting skills, communication, project management and networking. You will continually improve your commercial awareness and professionalism to grow into a successful actuarial consultant.

Responsibilities

Actuarial and Analytical Tasks

  • Regular assessment of the financial position of pension schemes
  • Identify and implement ways to reduce risks for trustees and companies (longevity, investment, inflation)
  • Carry out calculations for the pension scheme for the company’s financial accounts and for individual members’ benefits
  • Estimate Pension Protection Fund levies

Client Focused Tasks

  • Day-to-day management of the pension scheme and internal projects
  • Build and manage relationships with clients and other stakeholders
  • Attend and present at client meetings

Projects may include specialist teams such as:

  • Risk Settlement
  • Member Options
  • Analysis of mortality and demographic trends (Demographic HorizonsTM)
Your Development

You will be enrolled on our Launch Programme on joining, built around three core elements:

  • Business learning: on-the-job experiences to develop knowledge of your team and solution line
  • Centralised learning: induction, monthly webinars, business skills training and workshops to build knowledge, confidence and network
  • Professional Qualifications: the role includes expectation to complete a professional qualification as a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries, with paid study leave and materials
Your career beyond the Graduate programme

After completing the programme, you’ll continue to receive technical and business skills training, pursue actuarial qualifications, and work with your line manager toward promotions (twice a year). You can explore different career paths and specialist teams as listed above.

Next Steps

Entry Requirements:

  • On track to achieve a 2:1 degree (or equivalent) in maths, actuarial science, or a highly numerical discipline
  • A-grade or above in Maths A-level (or Scottish higher or international equivalent)
  • Practical skills in Python, SQL, VBA, or cloud platforms

Permanent contracts from day one; right to work in the UK required. EU Settlement Scheme status or ongoing decision process is acceptable.
