Role Overview

The role of the Ambulance Care Assistant involves the transportation of non-urgent patients to and from health/social care premises and private residences. This is a responsible role which requires a professional and caring attitude, as well as teamwork.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work in a team of two, or on your own, undertaking duties in a variety of vehicle types.
  • Transport frail or specialist‑need patients to/from appointments at hospitals, treatment centres and other similar facilities.
  • Use your sense of humour, local knowledge, and flexible, adaptable, discreet approach when engaging with patients and the public.
  • Participate in the training course and pass the First Person on Scene and patient transport driver training.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Full UK manual car driving licence.
  • At least one year driving experience.
  • Maximum of 3 penalty points will be considered for a minor motoring offence only.
  • MUST commit to undertaking and successfully passing the 3‑week paid training course in Welwyn Garden City.
  • Proven customer care and communication skills with the public.
Training & Development

You will start with a 3‑week paid training course (Monday – Friday) in Welwyn Garden City. The training includes clinical training to be a "First Person on Scene" and patient transport driver training, and a full uniform is provided.
