After School Club Playworker - Reading, Berkshire

Contract Type: Term Time Only – 15 hours per week

Start Date: October 2025

Location: Battle Primary Academy, Cranbury Rd, Reading, RG30 2TD

Hours: 15 hours per week during term time (opportunity to work up to 40 hours during holiday clubs)

Operational Hours: Monday to Friday – 15.00 to 18.00 for After School Club

Pay: Up to £12.21 per hour (plus holiday pay)

Contracts Available: Term Time

Holiday Clubs

Holiday clubs run from 8.30 to 17.30 Monday to Friday, based in several locations in Wokingham. We also have casual contracts available to cover staff sickness, holidays and busier sessions.

Responsibilities
  • Plan and execute structured and exciting activities that encourage maximum participation, such as multi‑sports, games, arts and crafts, structured play, and more, ensuring they are age‑appropriate.
  • Follow all Health and Safety protocols and policies, including signing in and out processes.
  • Provide refreshments for the children, maintaining high standards of hygiene and health and safety.
  • Set up and pack away play spaces, moving furniture and play equipment as needed.
  • Keep all relevant documentation, including accident and incident forms, up to date and completed as required.
  • Ensure proper sign‑in and sign‑out procedures are followed for all children in our care.
  • Communicate professionally and authentically with team members, parents, children, and schools.
  • Conduct regular maintenance and safety checks for all equipment and kit.
  • Take the lead in championing health and safety, providing first aid where necessary.
  • Keep all information and documents related to the children confidential and secure.
  • Inspire team members and children to have fun, be active, and lead an active lifestyle.
  • Create an inclusive and fun atmosphere from picking children up from school to safely delivering them back to their parents or caregivers.
  • Collaborate with the team to plan and execute activities that encourage maximum participation.
  • Ensure all activities are age and skill‑appropriate while prioritising safety, including proper use of equipment and space.
  • Take the lead in championing health and safety, providing first aid where necessary.
Eligibility and Requirements

This role requires compliance with the Keeping Children Safe in Education policy and is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974.

You must provide two references, one from your most recent employer and the other from a childcare setting (if applicable). We will conduct a DBS check on your behalf, so please prepare the correct documentation.
