Job description

Aerospace Design and Certification Engineer

Fareham
Full time
£26,000 - £32,000 per annum
Eligibility: Must have the right to work in the UK (no visa sponsorship available)

Our client is seeking a motivated Trainee Design and Certification Engineer to join their growing engineering team. This entry‑level role is open to recent graduates or candidates who have completed a Level 3 apprenticeship in engineering or a related discipline. The successful candidate will work under the guidance of the Head of Design and Design Programme Lead, gaining hands‑on experience in aircraft interior modification projects encompassing both design and certification.

What a day in this role will look like for you:

A typical day begins by interpreting customer requirements to gain a clear understanding of the project at hand. This may include conducting aircraft surveys using the latest 3D scanning technology, then converting those scans into models using SolidWorks software to create 2D drawings to allow for parts production and installation instructions. On the certification side, you'll learn to classify changes to type design as minor or major in accordance with the latest regulatory requirements. You'll support the compilation of compliance documentation and accomplishment instructions, enabling the approval and installation of the product(s) onto the aircraft. No two days are the same – one day you're on‑site surveying a cabin interior, the next you're at your desk modelling designs or working through certification documentation. Throughout, you'll be learning from experienced engineers and building the skills to become a fully competent design and certification engineer.

Key Responsibilities (Training Provided)
Certification and Compliance Support:
  • Assist in compiling modification and repair packages in accordance with UK CAA Part 21 Subpart J requirements.
  • Classify changes to type design and prepare associated technical documentation.
  • Contribute to compliance demonstration reports and accomplishment instructions.
  • Gain real‑world exposure to the aviation regulations, ensuring all modifications meet required airworthiness standards.
Engineering Design & Development:
  • Bring engineering concepts to life through CAD and hands‑on design activities using SolidWorks.
  • Develop 3D models and produce 2D engineering drawings compliant with aerospace standards.
  • Refine and maintain design documentation to aerospace standards.
Aircraft Survey Assistance:
  • Join engineers in aircraft surveys, including 3D scanning and technical assessments of cabin interiors.
  • Document findings through detailed reports, photographs, and accurate measurements.
  • Help identify modification opportunities and propose technical solutions.
