Overview

The Wigan Adult ADHD team are looking to recruit an ADHD Specialist Nurse (Band 6) to a permanent, part-time position (0.8wte/30 hours per week). Flexible working can be considered.

The successful applicant will join a friendly and supportive team and be supported by senior clinicians who will provide clinical supervision and development opportunities within a specialist team. The clinics are based at Wigan and Leigh and travel across the borough will also be required to support accessibility. The opportunity for further professional development including specialist ADHD training and non-medical prescribing can be considered with the successful applicant. Although specialist knowledge and experience of ADHD is desirable it is not essential.

Main duties
  • Completing routine reviews of patients with a confirmed ADHD diagnosis and plan clinical care accordingly.
  • Review routine enquiries received by the service and respond to patient requests for support.
  • Assessing the efficacy of treatment as well as completing physical health observations
  • Completing a clinical triage of referrals received into the service to determine suitability for assessment
  • Attending the MDT to ensure we provide a collaborative approach whilst focusing on patient care
  • Liaison with other agencies involved in a service users care to ensure effective communication leading to a comprehensive and integrated package of care
  • To supervise and provide support to students
  • To act as an advocate to facilitate the views and choices expressed by our patients

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

  • First level nursing qualification, RMN or equivalent.
  • Information technology skills sufficient to the undertaking of the post.
  • Independent & Supplementary Nurse Prescribing - V300 (or be willing to complete this training when deemed appropriate).

  • Additional qualifications relevant to this post.

Experience Essential

  • Demonstrable knowledge/understanding and experience in assessment of service users with complex mental health and/or complex needs such as ADHD/ASC and/or other neurodevelopmental conditions.
  • Evidence of an ability to effectively manage own workload and able to work autonomously.
  • Working within a team and/or multi-agency arenas.

Desirable

  • Specialist working knowledge and experience of supporting and monitoring service users diagnosed with ADHD

Knowledge and skills Essential

  • An ability to think systemically and holistically.
  • Demonstrable ability to communicate to service users, their families, and professionals sensitive and often difficult to receive information, using various methods including verbal, non-verbal, written and presentation skills.
  • Good knowledge of legislation acts and developments relevant to the field of child related work.
  • Knowledge of lone working risks and policy and procedure.

Desirable

  • Demonstrable knowledge and skills in evidence-based needs led assessment, of highly complex and co-morbid presentations of service users, their families, and carers.
  • Demonstrable knowledge and skills in evidence based therapeutic interventions relevant to the needs of this client group
  • Clinical/Safeguarding risk assessment skills.

Other requirements Essential

  • An ability to be flexible and innovative to adapt to the changing needs of the developing service.
  • There is a frequent requirement to travel within the Wigan and Leigh area to provide place-based care and an occasional requirement to travel across the wide footprint of the Trust to attend meetings and events relevant to the role.
