Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Nutrition and Dietetic Service within Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust for a highly motivated individual to join the Dietetic team in the role of Acute Team Lead Dietitian. This permanent post is ideal for an experienced Dietitian who wishes to combine a career in leadership with their clinical expertise. The post will provide professional and clinical leadership to qualified and non-qualified staff within the Nutrition and Dietetic Service.

Responsibilities
  • The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the adult acute team within the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Clinical work will be predominantly in the specialism of stroke; therefore a sound knowledge of dietetic post-stroke management is important.
  • The successful candidate will have good experience of enteral feeding and parenteral feeding and will be a key member of the Nutrition Team MDT.
  • In addition to the clinical role, successful candidates will have line management responsibilities for the acute inpatient team consisting of 2 band 6 dietitians and 3 band 5 dietitians.
  • You will support the Nutrition and Dietetic Service Lead with service development projects, policy updates, recruitment, development and retention of staff and students within the department.
  • To ensure the effective delivery of the Nutrition and Dietetic Service into designated areas.
  • To assist with providing visible and professional clinical leadership across the service working in collaboration with the other Team leaders and assist the Nutrition and Dietetic Service Manager on professional matters.
  • To provide strong clinical leadership with a requirement to balance competing clinical and performance priorities, ensuring patients are treated by an appropriate member of the team.
  • To contribute to the ongoing development of a high quality, clinically effective Nutrition and Dietetic Service by enabling staff in designated teams to work within professional and governance frameworks.
  • To include day to day allocation of resources within the service, including supervision and support of staff and students in designated areas.
  • To manage a specialised clinical caseload undertaking the assessment, provision of advice and monitoring of the patients. This care will be provided in the acute environment but may involve the community setting e.g. clinics within health centres.
  • To supervise, support, teach and appraise junior staff and students within the designated areas of the service.
  • To coordinate sickness absence, recruitment and retention, performance management, study leave and staff rotations for designated staff.
