Role: Senior Controls Systems Engineer

Location: Slough (On site & Home working)

Hours: Full time 37.5hrs per week + Overtime

About the role:

Actemium Automation is seeking an experienced Senior Control Systems Engineer to join our team. This role offers a dynamic mix of on-site and remote work, ideal for professionals with a strong background in control systems engineering.


The successful candidate will be instrumental in designing, testing, and commissioning control systems for key clients, collaborating closely with customers and internal teams to ensure project success.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Lead the design, review, and testing of control systems, ensuring compliance with customer specifications and industry standards.
  2. Serve as the main point of contact for clients and internal teams, facilitating clear communication and project efficiency.
  3. Design, test, and commission control systems according to specifications, standards, and safety regulations.
  4. Oversee onsite commissioning activities, ensuring adherence to site regulations and quality standards.
  5. Provide technical supervision and guidance to design, build, and installation teams.
  6. Assist Project Managers with planning, effort estimation, and tracking project progress.
  7. Contribute to tendering activities, including cost estimation and technical proposal development.
  8. Identify and implement process improvements to enhance project efficiency.
  9. Act as a technical mentor to junior engineers, promoting knowledge sharing and development.
Key Knowledge & Skills:
  • Qualifications: HNC/HND/Degree in a relevant discipline, with at least 10 years of experience in systems integration (or 15+ years with lower qualifications).
  • Extensive experience with PLC-based control systems, including architecture and programming (PLC, HMI, SCADA).
  • Knowledge of industrial control systems, control panel design, C&I system design, and commissioning.
  • Understanding of machinery safety standards and industry compliance.
  • Experience with onsite commissioning of complex industrial control systems.
  • Preferred sectors include Food, Pharmaceutical/Fine Chemical, and Material Handling/Logistics industries.
