Senior Accountant

We are acting on behalf of a well-established firm of chartered accountants in Devon who are seeking a Senior Accountant to join their growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced accountant looking to take responsibility for a varied portfolio of clients, contribute to a supportive team, and progress their career within a reputable practice.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a diverse portfolio of clients providing accounting, tax and advisory services.
  • Prepare and review financial statements, management accounts and statutory accounts in compliance with UK accounting standards.
  • Handle complex accounting and tax matters including corporate and personal tax, VAT and payroll.
  • Provide proactive advice to clients on financial performance, cash flow and business strategy.
  • Lead and mentor junior team members, providing guidance, support and training.
  • Assist in audits, ensuring thorough preparation, accuracy and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of changes in accounting and tax legislation and best practice.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, efficiency and client service within the firm.
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships, acting as a trusted advisor.
Skills & Experience Required
  • ACA/ACCA qualified (or equivalent) with proven experience in a senior accounting role.
  • Strong technical knowledge of accounting principles, taxation and financial reporting.
  • Experience preparing statutory accounts and managing audits.
  • Excellent analytical, numerical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex financial information to clients.
  • Experience supervising, mentoring and managing junior team members.
  • Proficient in accounting software (e.g. Xero, QuickBooks, Sage) and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple clients and deadlines effectively.
  • Professional, client‑focused and committed to delivering high‑quality work.
