Role Overview

The Account Director will play a senior, client‑facing role with responsibility for managing and growing a portfolio of predominantly property owner and real estate clients. This position requires a proven insurance professional with 5–10 years’ experience, strong market relationships, and the ability to lead, mentor, and support junior team members while contributing strategically to business growth.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Lead the placement and management of commercial insurance programmes, including but not limited to:
    • Property Owners
    • Commercial Combined
    • Office, Retail, and Real Estate Portfolios
    • Household, Travel, and Motor Fleet (where applicable)
  • Take ownership of a large and complex client portfolio, typically comprising medium to large corporate and property‑focused clients.
  • Act as the primary client relationship lead, delivering a high‑touch advisory service.
  • Negotiate and place renewals directly with insurers and underwriters, leveraging market relationships to secure optimal terms and coverage.
  • Oversee renewals, mid‑term adjustments, claims liaison, premium collection, and general servicing standards across the portfolio.
  • Provide mentorship and day‑to‑day guidance to Account Executives and junior team members, supporting their development and workload management.
  • Support senior leadership (including the CEO) with portfolio oversight, insurer relationships, and strategic initiatives.
  • Assist with financial oversight, including debtors, insurer statements, and premium reconciliation, in collaboration with accounts teams.
  • Ensure full compliance with FCA requirements, including issuance of proposal forms, TOBAs, and client documentation.
  • Identify cross‑selling and up‑selling opportunities across the wider client base.
Candidate Profile
  • 5–10 years’ experience within the commercial insurance broking sector, with strong exposure to property owners and real estate risks.
  • Proven experience managing medium to large client portfolios and complex insurance programmes.
  • Demonstrable managerial or supervisory experience, including mentoring or leading junior staff.
  • Strong technical knowledge of commercial insurance products and placement strategies.
  • Experience using Acturis.
  • Confident communicator with the ability to build long‑term relationships with clients, insurers, and stakeholders.
  • Commercially minded, proactive, and comfortable operating in a senior, client‑facing role.
  • Professional, credible, and consultative approach to business development.
