Job description

We are recruiting an A&E Consultant for one of the largest acute trusts in the country, based in South East England on a 12 month NHS Fixed Term basis. I wondered if this might either interest you or, if you knew of anyone within your network who may be interested.

The post holder will join a team of 5 consultants working in a level 1 department at a designated trauma Centre that provide care 24 hours a day with a comprehensive range of surgical, medical, outpatient and maternity services. The post holder will also participate in special duties such as: Clinical Governance for the department, Appraisal, Audit, Research, CPD and Educational supervision of doctors in training.

Overview

Our client’s A&E Department includes the following:

  • The ED has a co-located radiology room supporting the unit and is served by PAS-Oasis management system and E-searcher clinical information system with 24 hour reception cover. The main radiology department with a 24‑hour multi-slice CT scanner is situated next to the ED.
  • The ED has 19 cubicles (3 minors, 1 ENP room and 15 major spaces) and a resuscitation area supporting 4 adult trolleys and 2 paediatric bays.
  • Within the resuscitation area: each bay has monitoring with end tidal CO2, its own ventilator and defibrillator. Ultrasound equipment has been purchased with a well-developed training programme in place.
  • The psychiatric liaison team is based within the ED and provides assessment for patients presenting with mental health problems. A separate psychiatric interview room is provided in the department.

  • The department benefits from excellent support by the rehabilitation team, comprising physiotherapists, occupational therapists and social workers.
