Job description

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Buyer Corporate Services to join our dynamic Procurement team. This is a pivotal role supporting Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Barnsley Facilities Services, and The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust, with occasional involvement in cross-Trust projects within the South Yorkshire Integrated Care System (SY ICS).

As a Buyer, you will play a key part in delivering sourcing strategies for Corporate Services categories, including Corporate and IT services, ensuring compliance with UK Procurement Regulations and Standing Financial Instructions. You will manage low-to-medium value procurement projects, sometimes complex in nature, to achieve optimal financial and quality outcomes.

The Ideal Candidate will:

Be proactive, organised, and highly detail-oriented.

Be a strong team player, able to work collaboratively and support colleagues to achieve shared objectives.

Work calmly and effectively in a busy, pressurised environment.

Have strong communication skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.

Be computer literate, with experience of using a range of IT and procurement systems, and the ability to learn new systems as required.

Work collaboratively across non-clinical teams to procure a wide range of goods and services across Trust sites.

Provide advice and guidance to staff to ensure compliance with procurement legislation, Trust SFIs, and contracting procedures.

Main duties of the job

The Ideal Candidate will:

Assist Category Managers in developing and implementing collaborative work plans.

Manage and deliver transactional buying for IT and Corporate services.

Deliver procurement projects from scoping to contract award using e-tendering systems.

Conduct market analysis, benchmarking, and spend reviews to identify cost-saving opportunities.

Negotiate and manage contracts, ensuring performance and compliance.

Maintain accurate contract records and support contract management processes.

Qualifications
  • Good standard of general education educated to A level or equivalent including English and Maths at GCSE level 4 or above.
  • Level 4 (Diploma in Procurement and Supply) Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supplies or equivalent
Experience
  • Evidence of purchasing experience in an NHS environment (or similar public sector body)
  • Experience of letting product and service contracts using e-tendering tools
  • Experience of category management.
Skills and abilities
  • Numerate and able to receive, provide and manipulate complex information.
  • Customer care skills
  • Ability to devise and re-adjust plans
  • Able to manage conflicting priorities
  • Ability to concentrate for long periods as required for collating, checking and analysing statistics
